NICHOLSON STEAM TRAPS
To properly select a steam trap, we suggest that the following
information be collected
:
• Application Example : heat exchanger, press,
sterilizer, end of line, etc.
Discharge capacity required, in pounds per hour
(lbs/hr).
Physical constraints, reduced space, vertical or
horizontal installation.
Size and type of connections
Before making a choice, you may wish to consult
the newest products
Nicholson is offering. After which, you may consult the
selection matrix
to determine which steam trap best suits your application.

It is always recommended that the steam quality be taken into
account when selecting your trap. Are there solid deposits
(scale, metals ...) in your line that could harm your steam
trap? The thermostatic steam traps are fairly sensitive to scale
and other deposits. However, they offer better efficiency, more
precision and are completely hermetic.
When installing a steam trap, it is recommended that a Y strainer
be installed before the trap, and a check valve after.
Here are the four general types of steam traps:
Thermostatic
Float and Thermostatic, Free
Float
Inverted Bucket Trap
Thermodynamic
